The winter coats are coming out of the wardrobe again, the jumpers are piling up and soon there will be guests staying over for the holidays. That is exactly when you notice how handy a clothes rack on wheels is. You wheel it to the bedroom, the hallway or the guest room, and when you want to vacuum you simply push it aside. But what do you look for? In this guide you will read how to choose a mobile clothes rack that stands firmly and suits what you hang on it.
Why a clothes rack on wheels?
- Moving without lifting: even with clothes on it, you wheel the rack to another spot.
- Easy cleaning: you roll the rack aside and can reach everywhere with the vacuum cleaner.
- Flexible use: in the bedroom for your own clothes, in the hallway for coats or in the guest room for your guests.
- Extra hanging space: without needing a new wardrobe.
Which mobile clothes rack suits you?
| Wish | Choose | Our models |
|---|---|---|
| Lots of heavy clothes | Rack that holds up to 110 kg | Tabitha black, Bas silver |
| A mobile walk-in wardrobe | Double rack with 2 rails, shoe rack and organiser | Double rack black, 189 cm, double rack gold |
| Clothes and shoes together | Single rack with a shelf or space for shoes | Gio silver, Freja black |
| Clothes plus bags and coats | Rack with hooks | Clothes rack with hooks black, Diogo silver |
| A small room or student room | Narrow rack, 40.5 cm deep | Clothes rack pink |
Step 1: choose wheels with a brake
Wheels are handy, but a rack that rolls away when you take a coat off it is not. So choose a rack whose wheels you can lock. On the Tabitha and the Gio silver the wheels have locking brakes. The 189 cm double rack has 4 swivel castors that turn 360° and that you lock once the rack is in place. On the gold double rack and the Freja, 2 of the 4 wheels have a brake.
Step 2: how much does the rack need to hold?
Winter coats, jeans and thick jumpers weigh more together than you think. A rack that bends also rolls less smoothly. So look at the load capacity:
- Up to 110 kg: the Tabitha and the Bas. The Bas rolls on 4 industrial wheels, even when it is full.
- Up to 90 kg: the Gio silver and the black clothes rack with hooks.
- Up to 76 kg: the 189 cm black double rack, with a powder-coated steel frame.
- Up to 60 kg: the Freja, the Mia and the Emil.
- Up to 50 kg: the pink clothes rack and the Diogo silver.
- Up to 45 kg: the gold double rack, of which 35 kg on the rails and 10 kg on the shoe grid.
If you mainly hang shirts and dresses, a lighter rack is fine. If your whole winter collection is going on it, choose a rack with more load capacity.
Step 3: single or double?
With a single rack you have one row of clothes. That looks calm and is handy in a narrow space. With a double rack you hang two rows on the same floor space. On the 189 cm double rack, the rear rail is at 189 cm for long coats and dresses, and the front one at 153 cm for shirts and jackets. The gold double rack also has a high and a low rail. The Mia is a 191.8 cm high double rack with 2 hanging rails one above the other.
Step 4: measure the spot
Measure the width, depth and height of the spot where the rack will go. Also think about the route: if the rack will later be wheeled through a door, measure that too. A few dimensions for comparison:
- Pink clothes rack: 40.5 × 74 × 158 cm, nice in a small room.
- Freja and Emil: 44 × 95 × 157.7 cm.
- Gio silver: 100 × 49 × 163 cm.
- Double rack black: 120 × 45 × 189 cm, for long coats.
- Bas: 129 × 55 × 172 cm, for a large wardrobe.
Step 5: choose a colour that suits your room
- Black: sleek and industrial, such as the Tabitha, the Freja and the 189 cm double rack.
- Silver: light and fresh, such as the Gio, the Diogo and the chrome-plated Bas.
- Gold: a hotel-chic accent in your bedroom, such as the gold double rack.
- Pink: cheerful and playful, lovely in a teenager's room or small bedroom.
- Brown and black: warm and industrial, such as the Emil.
Handy extras
- Shoe grid or shelf: your shoes stand right under your clothes, as on the gold double rack and the Gio.
- Hanging organiser: the 189 cm double rack has 3 compartments for socks, scarves or small accessories.
- Hooks: for bags, hats and coats, as on the Diogo and the clothes rack with hooks.
Assembly
You assemble most racks yourself. The 189 cm double rack is put together in less than 15 minutes, without special tools. The Tabitha, the Gio and the Bas come with a manual in the box, the Bas also with the fixings. Assemble the rack in the spot where it will stand, or close by. Then you do not have to wheel it far afterwards.
Tips for your mobile clothes rack
- Lock the brakes as soon as the rack is in place.
- Hang heavy coats on the rail and put shoes and boxes at the bottom. That makes the rack more stable.
- Guests staying over during the holidays? Wheel the rack to the guest room, so your guests immediately have hanging space.
- Use the same hangers throughout, so your rack instantly looks calmer. Read which ones to choose in Choosing clothes hangers: velvet or wood?
