A mix of wire hangers, plastic hangers from the shop and a few odd wooden ones: in many wardrobes it is a hotchpotch. The result is a rail that quickly fills up, clothes that slide off the hanger and a wardrobe that looks messy. With good, matching clothes hangers you gain space and see at a glance what you have. In this guide you will read which hanger suits you.
Velvet or wood: which type suits you?
| Type | Suits | Our model |
|---|---|---|
| Velvet, 0.6 cm thin, set of 50 | A full wardrobe, blouses, dresses and smooth fabrics | Kaelthros white |
| Maple wood, set of 10 | Coats, jackets, jumpers and trousers | Kyranos white |
Step 1: look at your space
Is your rail full? Then the thickness of your hanger makes a big difference. The velvet Kaelthros hangers are only 0.6 cm thin, so much more clothing fits on the same rail than with thick hangers. If you have enough space and want a classier look, wooden hangers are a nice choice.
Step 2: look at your clothes
- Smooth fabrics: a silk blouse or satin dress is less likely to slide off a velvet surface.
- Coats and jackets: the wooden Kyranos hangers have a 360° swivel hook and are made for coats, jackets and jumpers.
- Clothes with straps: the Kyranos has notches on the shoulders, so tank tops stay in place.
- Trousers: the centre bar of the Kyranos has an anti-slip coating, so your trousers do not slip off.
According to the product description, each hanger in both sets holds up to 5 kg, so a thick jumper or winter coat can go on it too.
Step 3: how many hangers do you need?
Count the clothes you want to hang and add a few extra for new purchases. The Kaelthros comes in a set of 50, the Kyranos in a set of 10. You can also combine them: velvet for most of the wardrobe, wood for coats and jackets.
Tips for a calm wardrobe
- Choose one hanger colour for your entire wardrobe, it immediately looks tidier.
- Hang your clothes by type and then by colour, from light to dark.
- Keep the top button of a coat or blouse fastened, so it keeps its shape better.
- At the start of a season, turn all the hooks backwards. When you hang something back after wearing it, turn the hook around. That way, after a few months you can see which clothes you do not wear.
Need more hanging space?
Is your wardrobe too small, even with thin hangers? Then extra hanging space outside the wardrobe helps:
- On the wall: the Suze clothes rail hangs 30 cm from the wall, so your clothes do not rub against the wall.
- By the front door: the Pyrriona wall coat rack has a hanging rail for coats on a hanger, 3 knobs and a shelf.
- Freestanding rack: the Gio clothes rack gives room for clothes on the rail and for shoes and accessories.
- Mobile walk-in wardrobe: the double clothes rack on wheels has two rails at 189 and 153 cm high, a shoe rack and a hanging organiser.
