A full wardrobe, a chair covered in jumpers or coats that have nowhere to go: sound familiar? With a clothes rail you quickly create extra hanging space, without needing a new wardrobe. And because you see everything at a glance, you also choose your outfit faster. But which rail suits you? In this guide you will read what to look for.
Which type of clothes rail suits you?
| Type | Best for | Our models |
|---|---|---|
| Single rail with shelf | Bedroom or dressing room, clothes plus shoes or boxes | Gio silver, Benthe white |
| Double rail | A large wardrobe or a mobile walk-in closet | double black 189 cm, Chaya |
| Adjustable rail | A room or wardrobe that changes | Sativa XL, Sativa L |
| Compact rail | A corner or small bedroom | Inayah, 55 × 55 cm, pink on wheels |
| Wall-mounted clothes rod | No floor space for a freestanding rail | Suze black, Nyssa gold |
Step 1: how much hanging space do you need?
Look at what is currently hanging over your chair or in your overflowing wardrobe, and allow some extra space. With a double clothes rail you hang twice as much side by side. The 189 cm double rail has two rods at different heights: the rear one at 189 cm for long dresses and coats, the front one at 153 cm for shirts and jackets. Not yet sure how much space you need? On the Sativa XL you extend the hanging section from 90 to 154 cm wide.
Step 2: how much weight does it need to hold?
Winter coats and jeans are heavier than you think. A rail that bends does not look good and is not pleasant to use. So check the load capacity on the product page:
- Bas and Tabitha: up to 110 kg.
- Gio silver: up to 90 kg.
- Double rail black 189 cm: up to 76 kg.
- Sativa L: 70 kg in total, 35 kg per rod.
- Suze or Nyssa wall-mounted clothes rod: up to 60 kg.
Step 3: fixed or on wheels?
On wheels you roll the rail to where you need it, for example when you vacuum the room or when guests are staying. Then choose a rail with lockable wheels, such as the Gio silver and the Tabitha, so it then stands firmly in place. A fixed rail with an A-frame, such as the Benthe or the Julia, stands calmly and stably in one spot.
Handy extras
- Shelf or shoe grid: your shoes stand neatly under your clothes.
- Hanging organiser: the 189 cm double rail has 3 compartments for socks, scarves or underwear.
- Side rods: on the Jolie you hang scarves and ties on the side.
Tips for a calm clothes rail
- Use matching clothes hangers throughout. That instantly looks calmer and your clothes hang at the same height.
- Sort by type or by colour, so you find everything faster.
- Choose a colour that suits your room: black looks sleek, white and silver look light, gold adds a hotel-chic accent.
