You come home on a dark autumn evening and the candles on the windowsill are already lit. Nobody struck a match, and later they will go out by themselves. That is the convenience of LED candles with remote control and timer. But how exactly does such a timer work, what can the remote control do and which batteries do you need? In this guide you will read how to get the most out of your LED candles.
Why LED candles instead of real candles?
- No open flame: no flame to keep an eye on.
- No soot and no candle wax: your walls, your tablecloth and your candlesticks stay clean.
- Place them anywhere: the candles run on batteries, so you do not need a socket.
- The glass does not get hot: this applies to our glass candles in amber and smoked glass.
What is a moving flame?
An ordinary LED candle has a small, static light. A candle with a moving 3D flame flickers softly, in warm white. That makes it look much more like a real candle. All our LED candles give flickering, warm white light, and on virtually all models that is a 3D flame. On the smoked glass candles and gold/amber glass candles the flame sits behind glass. On the pillar and dinner candles it sits at the top of a shell of real wax.
Why real wax? A wax exterior feels and looks like an ordinary candle. On the Wave Top pillar candles the top edge has a wavy shape, as if the candles have already been burning for a while. On the Glow pillar candle and the set with melted top the light reflects off the edge of the wax, for a warm glow.
What can the remote control do?
- On and off: switch all candles on or off from the sofa, without touching each candle separately.
- Start the timer: activate the timer, and from then on the candles come on at the same time every day.
- Dimming: on the 33.5 cm cone candle you can also set the brightness.
The remote control comes in the box with every set, including a CR2025 button cell. So you do not need to buy that separately.
How the timer works
Most OMNIEXA LED candles have a 6-hour timer. This is how it works:
- Step 1: switch the candles on at the time you want them to come on every day, for example at 17:00.
- Step 2: activate the timer with the remote control.
- Step 3: the candles burn for 6 hours and then go off for 18 hours. The next day they come on again at the same time.
Want a different start time? Then switch the timer on again at the moment you want. The set with melted top works slightly differently: there you use the remote control to choose whether the candles switch off automatically after 4 or after 8 hours. Always check under Specifications on the product page which timer your candle has.
Which batteries do you need?
The batteries for the candles themselves are not included. This way you see at once what you need to get in:
| Candle | Batteries per candle | Timer |
|---|---|---|
| Glass candles, set of 3 | 2 × AA | 6 hours on, 18 hours off |
| Wave Top pillar candles, set of 3 | 2 × AA | 6 hours |
| Ribbed pillar candles cream or taupe | 2 × AAA | 6 hours on, 18 hours off |
| Smooth dinner candles, 28 cm | 2 × AAA | 6 hours |
| Ribbed dinner candles, 24.5 cm | 2 × AAA | 6 hours on, 18 hours off |
| Set with melted top | 2 × AA | off after 4 or 8 hours |
| Sphere candle and Glow pillar candle | 2 × AA | 6 hours on, 18 hours off |
| Cone candle 33.5 cm | 3 × AA | 6 hours on, 18 hours off |
Candles on AA batteries have more capacity than candles on AAA, so you change them less often. The slim dinner candles run on AAA. With a diameter of 2.2 cm they fit virtually any candlestick.
What to look for when choosing
- Spot: dinner candles look lovely on the table or in a candlestick on the mantelpiece. Pillar candles and glass candles in three heights work well on a sideboard, coffee table or windowsill.
- Look: choose glass for a glossy, luxurious look and real wax if you want candles that look classic.
- Colour: cream is light and timeless, taupe and smoked glass are warmer and more modern, amber gives extra warm light.
- Timer: do you want the candles to come on by themselves every evening? Then choose a candle with the 6-hour timer.
How many candles do you need?
That depends on the spot. On a side table or bedside table, a single candle, such as the sphere candle, is often enough. On a sideboard or windowsill, a set of three heights works best: the difference in height makes the whole look lively. For the dining table, choose dinner candles, for example two sets of two in a row. Feel free to combine types: a few pillar candles with one striking cone candle next to them gives a beautiful, calm look.
Tips for daily use
- Set the timer for around the time it gets dark. In autumn and winter that is often already at the end of the afternoon.
- If you use the timer, the candles only burn during the hours you set. That makes your batteries last longer.
- If you will not be using the candles for a while, take the batteries out.
- Do you have several sets? Start the timers at the same moment, so all the candles in the room come on at the same time every day.
