Choosing a laundry basket: how many litres do you need?

A laundry basket seems simple, but the wrong size means an overflowing basket or a bin that gets in the way. How many litres do you need?

The most important question is how much laundry builds up between two washes. That depends on the number of people and how often you wash.

One compartment or a laundry sorter?

A regular laundry basket has one space. That is fine if you have little laundry or wash everything together. With a laundry sorter you sort straight away as you undress: lights in one compartment, darks in the other. On laundry day you grab one bag and switch on the machine. What else to look for

A lid

The shape

A round, tall basket takes up little floor space and fits next to or behind a door. A rectangular basket fits snugly against the wall or in a cupboard. Measure the spot before you choose.
